Who says you need to have sensitive skin to use sensitive skincare? Sensitive skincare products are great for anyone.

They always have two types of ingredients that are very helpful for skin:

1) anti-inflammatory & soothing ingredients

2) barrier repair ingredients (these are identical to the chemicals found in your skin).

No matter how well we take care of our skin, there are times when our skin barrier will get damaged (it’s delicate!). From an irritating cosmetic ingredient or allergic reaction, over-cleansing, over-exfoliating, too much sun, getting windburned or sucked dry from indoor heat, living in a super dry climate, and so on. Many things can damage it, and barrier damage is the source of most skin problems.

Anti-inflammatory ingredients are great for controlling daily, chronic inflammation. We all have it. It’s the kind you can’t see – a low amount that slowly ages skin over time.

I like to keep sensitive skin cream or lotion on hand. In fact, I put it all over my face periodically, once a week or every two weeks. It gives my skin a break from my more active and aggressive products (serums, exfoliants). It’s also good to have around for times when your skin gets irritated or really dry.

Best part is that sensitive skincare doesn’t have to be expensive. A drugstore brand will do. This one by Cerave costs less than $15 (and it’s a HUGE jar). It’s also good for eczema and persistently dry skin.
