FITZPATRICK SKIN TYPE is a skin classification system used by dermatologists, estheticians, and scientists. Your Fitzpatrick Skin Type indicates how likely you are to tan or burn.
So you’re thinking, “Big deal. Who cares?” 🙂
Well, there are 6 types. And 3 of those types are at risk for SCARRING and COLOR CHANGES (hyper- or hypo-pigmentation). They are Types 4-6, which are darker skin tones. Some Type 3’s are also vulnerable.
Both scarring and color changes can happen from certain ingredients (like acids) or procedures (like extractions or deep chemical peels).
It’s important to be aware of this because it is VERY DIFFICULT to correct pigmentation issues.
I’m Type 3, a very common one in the U.S.
