LEMON – Great in food but TERRIBLE *on* skin.
I often see DIY tips to put lemon juice on skin. It is very unfortunate.
Lemon Juice has a pH of 2. This is EXTREMELY ACIDIC. It is 1000 times more acidic than your skin’s natural pH !
If you apply something this acidic to your skin, you damage it! A damaged barrier invites problems you surely don’t want.
Lemon has positive health benefits when you ingest it through food or drink. In other words, when it goes *inside your body.* But lemon juice on skin will hurt you. So keep it away from the surface of your skin.
DIY TIP – If you make your own skincare at home and want to use lemon, be sure there are enough alkaline ingredients in your recipe to neutralize the pH.
You can test the pH of your products with pH testing kits, which are available in drugstores.
