Skin should never burn or feel painful when you’re using a product.

Sometimes, people say they love using an exfoliant or peel that makes their skin burn. Because it feels “like the product is working.” I think most of us don’t like it when our skin is in pain. But in case you’re one of them..

A burning‬ feeling is never a good sign. If you feel pain‬ or great discomfort, your skin is experiencing massive inflammation.

Inflammation damages skin. And it prematurely ages skin. It’s one of the main causes of aging.

Some inflammation from certain skincare products is acceptable. For example, AHA exfoliants generate some inflammation, which triggers the formation of new tissue (through the body’s wound healing response ). This is one strategy for reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

But you don’t want A LOT of inflammation, and you don’t want to subject your skin to a high level of inflammation every day. Your skin is already getting plenty of inflammation through the sun & environment!

It’s also a reason you shouldn’t over-exfoliate – the excess inflammation ends up harming skin more than helping it.

So treat your skin gently. DON’T CRAVE THE BURN!

Something helpful to remember is the #1 cardinal rule in esthetics:

DO NO HARM TO YOUR SKIN

Calm skin is healthy skin 🙂
