My newest eye cream purchase is a winner. I am in love with this Indie Lee Calendula Eye Balm. It’s perfect for this cold, dry weather. ❄⛄
When ordering this, I was half expecting a classic balm texture (thick and hard) because of the word “balm” in its name. But this balm is the opposite. It has such a soft, buttery texture. As soon as it touches skin, it melts right in. I love that! Applying this is so easy. No accidental pulling of skin is possible with a texture like this. All I have to do is place the balm onto my skin, and it begins to spread under my finger.
The balm is moisturizing and comfortable. The skin around my eyes feels protected from the harsh wind outside. And indoors, the balm keeps my skin from getting dried out quickly. It has been very cold lately, so the heater is on full blast, making the air dry.
I scoop the balm out of the jar with a spatula because it’s a soft solid. It looks hard but ‘gives’ easily to pressure, such as the dip of a spatula. With the spatula, I can control how much I scoop out (you don’t need much), and of course keep bacteria out of the jar. A corn kernel size amount should be enough for both eyes.
When the balm melts on skin, it turns into an oil. But unlike a regular face oil, this balm sinks in fast. It doesn’t feel like a liquid oil, which tends to spread fast and get into eyes. This feels like a balm without the heaviness of one. It’s surprisingly light. Skin glistens a bit afterward (from the oil), which depending on your preference may be a plus or a minus. I don’t mind.
I like applying this at night before bed. It serves as my final ‘seal.’ If you like using an eye serum or treatment before an eye cream, this balm doesn’t interfere. I have not encountered any issues with pilling. For me, it’s been easy to wear this with different eye treatments by other brands. I’ve been using one or two eye serums, and at times even an eye cream, with this balm. (It’s very dry here, so I’m layering more around the eyes.)
While I have many eye treatments and eye creams, sometimes I just want a product that will moisturize and not be too active. I like to give my eyes a break from anti-aging eye treatments from time to time. Although there are many eye creams on the market, I don’t find many that are very moisturizing yet non-clogging. This is finally something I can turn to. It keeps my skin moisturized longer than many of my other eye creams. And best of all, it’s so comfortable.
The moisturizing and emollience ingredients are: Calendula Oil, Beeswax, Mango Seed Butter, Lavander Oil, Squalane, and Avocado Oil. And that’s basically the ingredient list. (Vitamin E is the only other ingredient.) It’s a very clean product and should be gentle on your eyes unless you have an allergy to one of the botanical ingredients.
The price of this balm is $42 USD for 0.5 oz. I think it’s a reasonable price for the performance and quality. It will last longer than other eye creams in this size because it’s more concentrated.
