ANTI AGING SKIN CARE GUIDE

Welcome to the Anti Aging Skin Care Guide. Aging is a complex topic that is difficult to tackle all at once. So this section of the site will continue to grow over time.

My goal is to help you understand the aging process and the strategies for slowing it down. There are many different strategies, and each one is a big topic.

While I know you are eager to hit the store, I believe that giving you a simple list of things to buy or do would not be helpful in the long run. Fighting aging is a lifelong process, and you will always need to tweak your skin care plan. (Skin is always changing, especially when we get older and our hormone levels change.)

If you understand the aging process and how skin works on a basic level, you will be more knowledgeable about how to manage your skin. And a savvier consumer.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THIS GUIDE

If you’re in a hurry, you can read the Anti-Aging Recap, a 1 page summary of this guide. It takes about 5 minutes.

PART I – Essential Reading

First, read What is Aging? This will explain the aging process and introduce you to the two kinds of aging – intrinsic and extrinsic.

Then, read the section on Free Radicals. This is such an important cause of aging, you don’t want to miss this.

I provide a detailed overview of some of the major antioxidants used in skin care today, such as: Vitamin CVitamin EVitamin AGrapeseed/Resveratrol. (Just hover over the Side Menu to see them.) By the way, you can always find any ingredient I talk about in the INGREDIENT CORNER.

For those of you with more advanced knowledge of skin care or a serious interest in taking anti-aging to the maximum level, read the section on Reactive Oxygen Species. Today’s increasingly sophisticated ingredients are designed to target these ROS.

Next, read about DNA Repair, which is closely related to Free Radicals.

PART II – More Advanced But Highly Recommend

Once you’ve finished Free Radicals, Antioxidants, and DNA Repair, pat yourself on the back! You now possess the core knowledge for tackling aging. You’re ready for the big leagues in anti-aging!

For more advanced information on Antioxidants, you can read about Direct vs Indirect Antioxidants.

The head over to Inflammation. This is also a very important section, as many skin problems stem from inflammation. In fact, a lifetime of chronic inflammation is one of the major causes of aging.

I highly recommend Glycation & Cross-Linking and Mitochondria. Though these articles are more science-y, they play a big role in aging. If you understand these concepts, you can implement more sophisticated anti-aging strategies.

The key thing to remember is this: An effective anti-aging strategy tackles the different causes of aging. Not just one.

So, for example, you can’t just rely on Antioxidants. You need products that address inflammation, glycation, and energy production.

PART III – For Skin Care Passionistas or Science Lovers

For those of you who are really interested in the topic of aging, I briefly cover a few other causes of aging in Cellular Garbage and Other Causes of Aging

Come back from time to time, as I’ll be adding more material later.
