Critical Sun Protection Facts
The most important thing you must now is that there are 2 types of UV radiation that are harmful:
UVA
- UVA is responsible for aging, causing damage to collagen & elastin
- 95% of solar radiation is UVA, so there is 50 times more of it than UVB
- UVA goes right through clouds and window glass
Because UVA is always present, you should wear sunscreen every day, even if it is a cloudy day.
UVB
- UVB primarily causes burning
- UVB is stronger during the summer and closer to the equator
Both UVA and UVB cause:
- skin cancer
- skin aging
- burning
- pigmentation
85% of skin aging comes from sun damage
