How many of you have heard of Sea Whip? It’s a little known ingredient but a fantastic ingredient for skin care, one of my favorites.

Sea Whip is also called Gorgonian Coral (Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae), a marine plant found in very salty water.

What makes it special? It is a POWERFUL anti-inflammatory ingredient. More powerful than hydrocortisone and other common anti-inflammatory ingredients typically found in skin care.

And what makes it so powerful? It is an EXTREMOPHILE (also called an extremolyte).

What?! 🙂

Extremophiles are life forms that can survive in extremely hostile conditions, which would kill 99.9% other living things. They are marine plants or animals such as seaweeds or algae living in forbidding pockets of the ocean.

Imagine trying to live in one of these environments:

– Extreme Heat

– Extreme Cold

– Extreme UV Exposure

– Extreme Dryness

– Extreme pH

– Extreme Salinity (Very Salty)

– Extreme Pressure

– No Oxygen (Sulfur-Rich)

In other words, the absolute worst conditions on earth.

Extremozymes / DNA Repair Enzymes

Extremophiles can survive in these hostile environmental because they possess protective and repair enzymes. Guess what? These survival enzymes are great when topically applied to human skin. Enzymes harvested from these extremophiles (called extremozymes or DNA repair enzymes) protect DNA and protein in skin from environmental damage.

Sea Whip also possesses anti-inflammatory compounds that interrupt the inflammation process early on. This significantly reduces the size of the inflammatory response.

[Note for advanced readers: Those anti-inflammatory compounds are called pseudopterosins, which inhibit PLA2 in the arachidonic acid cascade).
